Dominica nightlife - dance, drink, have fun!
It's not very lively, but there is some evening activity. A couple of the major hotels, such as the Fort Young Hotel, Victoria Street, and the Reigate Hall Hotel, Mountain Road, have entertainment on weekends, usually a combo or "jing ping" (traditional local music). In the winter season, the Castaways Hotel sponsors a weekend barbecue on the beach with live music. The clubs and bars in these hotels attract mainly foreign visitors, so if you'd like to go where the locals go, head for one of the following. The Warehouse, Checkhall Estate, a 5-minute drive north of Roseau, adjacent to Canefield Airport, is the island's major dance club, and packed every Saturday. Recorded disco, reggae, and other music is played from 10pm to 5am in this 200-year-old stone building, once used to store rum. The cover is EC$12 (US$4.45). Check out Krazy Terrace, 16 King George V, if late-night disco dancing is your thing. Other hot spots include QClub, corner of Bath Road and High Street, Roseau, the place to be on a Friday night. Records, both local and American, are played until dawn breaks. If you get bored here, head for Symes Zee's, 34 King George V St., Roseau, the domain of Symes Zee, the island's best blues man. A local band entertains with blues, jazz, and reggae. Here's your chance to smoke a reasonably priced Cuban cigar.
